I wanted to contact you about the savings and special I
have going on for my clients. A wind mitigation
inspection might be a good place to start. Houses that
have been built or improved to withstand windstorms
could qualify for up to $1,000 in discounts on wind
insurance premiums.
Safety Harbor ice cream distributor Howard Cegan got
an inspection of his 2,727-square-foot concrete block
house in March. His insurance company has dished
back $863 in savings.
"It was a really good thing to do," said Cegan, 47.
Most houses constructed according to post-Hurricane
Andrew building codes qualify for discounts. I am
offering a special price for August. These are normaly
$150.00. $100 for this month. Just mention this ad.
Also referral discounts.
Houses built before the mid 1990s are also eligible for
discounts if they have been improved under newer
codes.
I won't do an inspection if I don't think you are going to
get some discount.

- Roof geometry, roof covering and roof deck
attachment.
- Roof-to-wall attachments and type of wall construction.
- Secondary water resistance.
- Protection, if any, for windows, doors, skylights or
other openings.

determine whether walls are made of wood, masonry
or reinforced masonry. I check to see whether windows
and doors are hurricane rated.
The inspection takes about 45 minutes. I produce the
report of the findings on each of the eight points. I email
the report to you in a PDF and you just forward the
report to your insurance company.
The inspection is based on the home as currently built,
but the report can become the starting point for future
improvements.
